SARTELL, Minn. – Trailing by eight strokes heading into Sunday's final round, the Macalester College women's golf team came back to win the Saint Benedict Invitational, held this weekend at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course. The victory came in the first competition of the 2025 fall season.
After posting a team score of +30 318, eight strokes behind Saint Benedict, the Scots rallied on Sunday to card a +15 303 and edge the host Bennies by two strokes.
Senior
Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) led Sunday's charge, shooting a 73 in the second round to finish atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 151. The win marked Lengfelder's third medalist honor in her career at Macalester, and was an improvement over last year's 11th-place finish at this event.
Sophomore
Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) and first year
Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanghai Experimental School) tied for sixth at 157, with Austria carding a 78 in the second round. Sophomore
Mia Cluff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) also contributed to the comeback with a 75 on Sunday en route to a tie for 13th place with a score of 160. Senior
Scarlett Liu (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory), who turned in a second-round score of 77, tied for 16th overall.
Macalester returns to action next weekend at the Wartburg Fall Invitational Sept. 6-7 at Prairie Links Golf Club.
