ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team received the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced today. The Scots were among 440 college programs this year to earn the award, which is sponsored by Sports Attack.

In order to be honored, teams must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2024-25 academic year. Last month, 21 Scots were named to the Academic All-MIAC Team: Izzy Flood (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), Ben Levinson (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), Shun Mizuno (Irving, Texas/Ranchview), Jacob Posner (Los Angeles, Calif./Alexander Hamilton) and Cam Scholl (Belmont, Calif./Carlmont) of the Class of 2025, rising seniors Tristan Jones (Fairfield, Conn./Greens Farm Academy), Evan Kang (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Village Christian), Ben King (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet), Jamie Loizeaux (Albany, Calif./Albany), Raymond McCaskey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs), Brennan Murley (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), Josh Planko (Northville, Mich./Northville), and Peter Ward (Brooksville, Fla./Springstead), and rising juniors Caleb Chou-Green (San Francisco, Calif./Peddie School), Braden LaChapelle (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson), Jack Nussbaum (Brunswick, Maine/Thornton Academy), Ben Oberdorfer (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxson School), Holden Peacock (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid School), Isaiah Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Northbrook), Josh Schmidt (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet), and Nick Strezo (San Mateo, Calif./Hillside).

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
