ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College by junior Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) was included on the All-MIAC singles team, as the conference announced its year-end awards today. Haugen makes her first appearance on the All-MIAC team after receiving All-MIAC honorable mention the past two seasons.
This year Haugen posted an 11-7 record in singles overall, which included a 6-4 mark against MIAC competition. Playing mostly at No. 2 singles, she was 9-5 at that position and 1-2 at No. 1 singles. Against 29th-ranked Gustavus on April 18, Haugen secured the Scots' lone point with a victory over Allison Szalay at No. 2 singles in straight sets. She also played alongside junior Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) at No. 1 doubles for Macalester, registering a record of 7-11 against their opponents' top doubles teams.
In her three seasons at Macalester, Haugen has a singles record of 34-16.
Carleton's Amelia Asfaw was named the MIAC Singles Player of the Year, while Kaya De Bruijn and Karina Elvestrom were chosen the MIAC Doubles Team of the Year. Elvestrom also was selected the MIAC Rookie of the Year, with Gustavus' Jon Carlson receiving the MIAC Coach of the Year award for the 10th time on the women's side.
