GENEVA, Ohio - Macalester College first year Ariella Rogahn-Press (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) won her heat of the 400 meters to advance to the finals on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at SPIRE Institute.

Rogahn-Press' time of 53.88 is a new school record and is the fastest time in the preliminaries, topping her own previous school record of 53.89 set at the MIAC Championships on May 10. She defeated Emory's Eva Charchidi by .09 seconds in the second of three heats. Charchidi edged Rogahn-Press at the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 19 by .08 seconds with a time of 54.22, which was the fastest time in Division III at the time.

Bethel's Shalom Sulungaine won the third heat to advance to Saturday's finals, while MIAC champion Megan Geraets of Gustavus, who held off Rogahn-Press at the MIAC Championships with the nation's fastest time of 53.87, finished fourth in her heat and did not advance.

An All-American in the 400 indoors, Rogahn-Press finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships after running the fastest time in the prelims with a school record of 55.97. She was named the MIAC Rookie of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and currently holds the school records in the 200 and 400 indoors and the 100, 200 and 400 outdoors after just one year at Macalester.

The finals of the 400 meters will take place on Saturday, May 24 at 1:20 p.m. Central at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
