ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four members of the Macalester College men's tennis team were recognized by the College Sports Communicators on the Academic All-District Team, which was announced today. The honorees are seniors Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul, Academy) and Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School), and sophomore Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu). Lynch and Wood make their third appearances and Lindstrom is a repeat selection on the Academic All-District Team.
Lindstrom played all but two of his matches at No. 5 singles, compiling a record of 9-8 overall and 5-4 against MIAC competition. He also combined with Wood to go 7-10 at No. 2 doubles. An economics and mathematics double-major, Lindstrom has made the Academic All-MIAC team in each of the past two seasons.
Lynch earned All-MIAC honors in doubles alongside senior Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) at No. 1 doubles. The duo went 9-8 this season, including a 5-4 mark in the MIAC, while facing the opponents' top doubles teams. Lynch also competed at No. 3 singles. An English major, Lynch also is a two-time Academic All-MIAC selection.
Wood was named to the All-MIAC team in singles for the second time in his career after going 7-10 overall and 4-5 against MIAC competition at No. 2 singles. His win at No. 2 singles against Hamline clinched a 5-4 victory for the Scots on April 8. Wood has made the Academic All-MIAC team twice while majoring in media & cultural studies.
Li went 7-9 in singles play, mostly at No. 4 singles. He had key victories at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles in a 4-3 win over UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 8. Along with first year Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), he posted an 8-8 record at No. 3 doubles.
Student-athletes must be at a sophomore, junior or senior, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and have been in the lineup for 70 percent of their team's dual matches to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
