GREENSBORO, N.C. – Macalester College senior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) began competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Wray-Raabolle swam in the 50-yard freestyle, the first of her three events at nationals.
Wray-Raabolle, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard backstroke, turned in a time of 24.11 in the 50 free. In an event that some competitors use for acclimating themselves to the pool, Wray-Raabolle's time was 49th among 61 swimmers.
Her next event is her specialty, the 100-yard backstroke, which takes place on Friday, Mar. 21 at approximately 10:40 a.m. Eastern. Wray-Raabolle has the 12th-fastest time in the 100 back among competitors at the championships. Her school-record time of 55.17 was set on the first leg of the Scots' winning 400-yard medley relay team at the MIAC Championships. She also will swim the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday.
