MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team competed in its final meet before the MIAC Championships, participating in the University of Minnesota's First Chance Meet, held Friday and Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The MIAC Championships will be held at the same pool Feb. 19-22.
The highlight of the meet was a school record by senior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), who swam a time of 2:10.19 in the 200-yard individual medley on Friday. The old record of 2:10.60 was set by
Jocelyn Radke '24 last year. Chapon also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.99. Junior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) finished ninth in the 100 fly in 1:00.85. Also on Friday, senior
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) took second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.97), junior
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.95), and the Scots' 400-yard medley relay team of sophomores
Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) and
Nicole Tilzer (Tampa, Fla./Sickles), senior
Elizabeth Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) and first year
Abigail Martinson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) took sixth (4:16.32).
During Saturday's morning session, Uhlhorn-Thornton finished fifth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:47.29, sophomore
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School) took seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle and Schmit was ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.47.
In the evening session, first year
Maya Tellez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) and Henry took fifth (54.44) and sixth (54.50), respectively in the 100-yard freestyle. Five Macalester swimmers finished in the top 10 in the 200-yard breaststroke: Uhlhorn-Thornton was third in 2:26.81, senior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) placed fifth in 2:31.74, first year
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College) finished sixth in 2:34.81, first year
Julia Goh (Williamstown, Mass./Northfield Mount Herman School) took seventh in 2:35.38, and Tilzer was ninth in 2:35.69.
The MIAC Championships begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
