Men’s Swimming & Diving: Pajarillaga Named Co-Rookie of the Year, Scots Fourth at the MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team wrapped up the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships with strong performances Saturday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Scots finished with 462.5 points to place fourth out of six teams.

First year Kean James Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy) was chosen the MIAC Rookie of the Year. Pajarillaga, who took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke on Friday, won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.77. He shares the award with Jacob Robischon of Gustavus. Also competing in the A final of the 200 back was first year Bode Thompson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), who finished eighth in 2:00.46.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, junior Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham) took fifth in 2:07.77 and senior Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) placed eighth in 2:09.29, as both swimmers made the A final. Senior Ben Lewin (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) qualified for the B final and finished 12th. Thompson also qualified for the A final in the 200-yard butterfly, taking sixth in 1:57.72. Fellow first year Boden Allen (Los Angeles, Calif./Redondo Union) swam in the B final and placed 13th.

Three swimmers made the B final in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Thomas Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) took 10th, first year Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was 12th and senior Isaac Kisker (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) was 16th. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, seniors Adam Schroeder (Altadena, Calif./St. Francis) and Ryan McNeff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), who were ninth and 10th, respectively.

Macalester's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Moore, Taufen, junior Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Kisker closed out the meet with a third-place finish in 3:08.26.
