ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior
Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) and sophomore
Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) both were officially named All-North Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced today. Norquist finished ninth and Fox placed 15th at the NCAA North Region Meet this past Saturday to earn All-Region honors, which recognizes the top 35 finishers at each of the 10 region meets.
Norquist followed up her sixth-place finish at the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1 by taking ninth at the North Region Meet with a time of 22:11.0. Her performance marked the best finish by a Scot since All-American
Kimber Meyer '17 placed fifth in 2016.
Fox's 15th-place finish with a time of 22:23.4 to earn her second straight All-Region accolade after taking 25th a year ago. Fox also was All-MIAC this fall for the second year in a row, taking 10th to give Macalester two All-MIAC runners for the first time since 2014.
Both Norquist and Fox qualified for this Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships by placing among the top seven runners at the regional meet who are not on an NCAA-qualifying team. The Scots haven't had two individuals qualify for nationals in cross country since All-Americans and Macalester Hall of Famers
Julia Kirtland '87 and
Linda Zeman '84 in 1983.
The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Roger Milliken Cross Country Course in Spartanburg, S.C. The women's race begins at 10:00 a.m. Central.
