EDINA, Minn. – The Macalester College women's golf team turned in its best finish ever at the MIAC Golf Championships, placing second with a school-record score of 218 (+54) this weekend at Braemar Golf Course. Senior
Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) took second individually while also breaking a school record. She was one of three Scots to post a top-10 finish at this year's Championships.
The Scots, whose highest finish before today was third at the 2006 MIAC Championships, were 38 strokes ahead of third-place St. Catherine, and 32 strokes behind champion Carleton. The previous school record for a 54-hole score was 965, registered by both the 2022 and 2024 teams at the MIAC Championships.
Lengfelder posted scores of 71, 74 and 73 to take second at 218 (+2), breaking her own school record of 227 set at the 2022 MIAC Championships. That year Lengfelder tied for third, the first of four top six finishes and her best showing until this weekend. She is the only Scot to make the All-Championships team (top 10) all four of her years at Macalester, and just the 26th women's golfer to accomplish the feat in recorded MIAC history.
Sophomore
Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) also broke the old school record for 54 holes, tying for fourth with a score of 77 75 73 - 225 (+9). The performance marks her second top-10 finish after tying for 10th last year. Next for Macalester was first year
Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanghai Experimental School), who made it three Scots in the top 10 by tying for ninth with a score of 235 (+19). First year
Esther Shen (Barcelona, Spain/The Benjamin Franklin International School) finished just outside the top 10, tying for 12th with a score of 240 (+24). Sophomore
Mia Cluff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) closed out Macalester's lineup in 35th at 261 (+45).
Carleton won the team title with a tournament-record score of 886 (+22), while the Knights' Carter Sichol won medalist honors by carding a score of 211 (-5), which is also a MIAC Championships record.
The Scots, coached by
Johnny Greene, will resume their schedule in the spring.
