ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team fell to Grinnell College by a score of 181-104 in a home dual meet. As the team celebrated their Senior Day, the Scots' star in the pool was senior Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill), who won two individual events and anchored a winning relay team.
Batsaikhan started his big day with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing less than a second ahead of his Grinnell competition in 59.29 seconds. He later was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke, this time with a strong 2:13.21 finish, more than five seconds before any Grinnell swimmers. Junior Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./ East Rockingham) finished in second in 2:17.38.
The Scots' only other individual swim event win came from first year Bode Thompson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.07 seconds. Thompson also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.98.
The diving events were both won by Dylan Herlihy (Reading, Mass./ Phillips Academy) despite very close competition from Grinnell. He scored 344.95 in the 3-meter and 204.70 in the 1-meter.
In the final event of the day, the Scots were edged out by Grinnell in the 200-yard freestyle relay by just 0.09 seconds. The relay team consisted of sophomore Tommy Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./ Science Leadership Academy), senior Isaac Kisker (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), junior Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./ Winston Churchill), and Batsaikhan.
The Scots will travel across town for the Piper Red Invite at Hamline University on Feb. 1.
