Baseball: Odom, Waddell, Wingard Named to All-Region Teams

PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior infielder Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region 9 second team and the D3baseball.com All-Region 9 third team, the organizations announced today. Additionally, junior outfielder Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) was chosen to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region third team, and junior catcher Bowman Wingard (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) made the D3baseball.com All-Region third team.

The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association, led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America and Coach of the Year Committee. The D3baseball.com All-Region teams are selected by the D3baseball.com staff and contributors.

Odom earns his first All-Region honors after being named All-MIAC for the third time in his career this spring. He closed out his career at Macalester with his best season, batting .414 with 10 doubles, 32 runs, 35 runs batted in and 11 home runs. Odom led the MIAC with a slugging percentage of .819 while ranking second in home runs and fifth in batting average. His 11 homers tied the school record set by Jesse Calm '02 in 2000. In a 17-3 victory at Bethany Lutheran on April 18, Odom blasted two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs. He completed his career as a Scot with 145 hits, 20 home runs, 96 runs and 102 RBIs in 121 games played.

Waddell made his first All-MIAC team after batting .433 with 14 doubles, six homers and 22 RBIs to rank third in the MIAC in batting average, fourth in doubles and seventh in home runs. He had 14 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance in a win over Northwestern on April 24. Waddell also went 3-for-3 with two home runs against Saint John's on the final day of the season. Through 82 games at Macalester, Waddell has 88 hits, 30 doubles, 11 home runs and 52 RBIs for his career.

Wingard also earned his first All-MIAC honor this spring, batting .373 with 13 doubles, two triples, two homers and 25 RBIs. He ranked seventh in the MIAC in doubles and 13th in batting average. On the final day of the season, Wingard closed out the year in style, going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 3-2 victory over Saint John's on May 1. He also drove in five runs, including a three-run homer, in a 9-5 win over Crown on Mar. 13. In 80 games as a Scot, Wingard has 78 hits, 25 doubles and 46 RBIs for his career.
