WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The Macalester College women's golf team played well at the BU Rumble at the Ridge, hosted by Bethel University and held Saturday and Sunday at Oneka Ridge Golf Course. The event consisted of one round of stroke play on Saturday and match play on Sunday. Sophomore
Emily Bruce (Orleans, Ontario/Ashbury College) won medalist honors to lead the Scots to a second-place finish on Saturday. Macalester topped Saint Benedict 3-2 in match play on Sunday.
Bruce carded a 2-over-par 74, her lowest round as a collegian by four strokes, to finish first among 55 golfers on Saturday. She won by two strokes over Annika Reierson of Gustavus and University of Northwestern's Morgan Eckman. Sophomore
Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) placed sixth with a 79, while senior
Phebe Chen (South Barrington, Ill./Barrington) tied for 18th with an 83. Sophomore
Scarlett Liu (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory) tied for 27th and sophomore
Sydney Ohr (Prospect Heights, Ill./John Hersey) tied for 37th to close out the Scots' lineup.
On Sunday, Macalester competed in match play against Saint Benedict, which placed first as a team on Saturday. The Scots were able to avenge Saturday's results by winning three of the five matches. Lengfelder won her match with Jamie Bimberg, 5&4, Chen defeated Catherine Jance, 2&1, and Ohr beat Georgia Hinton, 1-up by winning the last hole to clinch the win. Bruce lost to Emily Renner, 1-up, and Liu fell to Maggie Roth, 2&1.
Macalester completes its regular-season schedule next week at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invite, held April 27-28 at Willingers Golf Club in Northfield, Minn.
