ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team won five individual events and placed second out of six teams at the Grace Goblirsch Invitational, hosted by Gustavus on Saturday. The Scots scored 652.5 points to finish ahead of Saint Benedict, Dordt, Morningside and Hamline and behind only the defending MIAC-champion Gusties.
Junior
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) was one of two Scots to win two individual events. She won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:43.55 and placed first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:58.69. First year
Maya Tellez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) also won two events, capturing the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.96) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.39). Junior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) continued her strong season with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.45.
First year
Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) finished behind Tellez in the 500 freestyle in 5:32.85. Senior
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) took second behind Zurn in the 1650 freestyle (18:54.76); senior
Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.70); and sophomore
Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.10).
In the relays, the Macalester foursome of Henry, Chopskie, Shields and Tellez took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.19. That same team also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:49.43.
In the diving events, senior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) finished second on the 3-meter board with a score of 180.95, then took third on the 1-meter board with a score of 173.55.
Macalester hosts the Roger Ahlman Invitational Dec. 6-7 at Riley Pool in the final competition of the semester.
