DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team began the 2024-25 season with a victory over Luther College Friday night at Luther. The Scots won 10 of the 16 events to outscore the Norse, 168-131.
Macalester opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay by the team of senior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), first year
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College), senior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and junior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) in 1:53.21.
Wolking was one of several first years to make a splash in their first college meet, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.43). Fellow first year
Madeline Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) won three events: the 1000-yard freestyle (10:59.22), the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.29) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.13). Seniors also posted solid performances, with Wray-Raabolle winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.25, and Chapon placing first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.08. Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) took first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:35.81.

Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) in the 200-yard freestyle, first year
Julia Goh (Williamstown, Mass./Northfield Mount Herman School) in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Chapon in the 50-yard freestyle. In diving, senior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) finished second on the 3-meter board and third on the 1-meter board.
Macalester hosts the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Oct. 26 in the first home meet of the season at Riley Pool.
