ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team competed in a dual meet against Grinnell College in the final home competition of the season Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots, who honored their seniors during the meet, narrowly lost to the Pioneers in the team scoring, 144-129.
Macalester won both relays, with of junior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), sophomore
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais), junior
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and senior
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) combining to open the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.77. At the end of the meet, Radke, Merkadeau, junior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and sophomore
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) captured the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.14.
In the individual events, Henry won both the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.29) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.65). Uhlhorn-Thornton placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.24) and second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.32). Sophomore
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.62) and took second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.57). Radke took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.45 and placed third in the 200 free in 2:00.94. Junior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) won the 50-yard freestyle (25.57) and was third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.60). First year
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School) finished first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:07.74.
Other top three finishes included Merkadeau, who was second in the 50 free (25.58), sophomore
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), who was second in the 500 free (5:22.76), Wray-Raabolle, who took third in the 100 back (1:01.96), and junior
Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood), who placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:26.51).
Macalester will compete in the Minnesota First Chance Meet on Feb. 9-10 at the University of Minnesota in the Scots' final tune-up before the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 14-17.
