ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team saw five Scots recognized by the MIAC today, as the conference announced its season-end awards. Sophomores
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century),
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani), and
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School), along with seniors
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) were named to the All-MIAC singles team. Korolev, Sargent, and Sullivan were named to the All-MIAC doubles team. Doi was also recognized as part of the MIAC All-Playoff team.
Doi led the Scots with 12 singles wins this season. He went 1-0 at No. 1 singles, 3-0 at No. 2 singles, and 8-4 at No. 3 singles for an overall record of 12-4 (7-2 MIAC). Doi's 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against St. Olaf on April 23 helped the Scots to a 6-3 victory. Though his singles match in the semifinals went unfinished, Doi had won the first set 6-4 at No. 3 singles against Carleton. This is Doi's second All-MIAC singles team recognition, as he received the honors in 2022 as well. This is his first All-Playoff team honors.
Korolev held the second most wins on the team this spring with an 11-5 record. He went 3-0 at No. 3 singles, defeating Northwestern on Feb. 11, Saint Mary's on April 1, and St. Olaf on April 23. He played the rest of the season at No. 4 singles with a record of 8-5. Korolev was 12-5 in doubles, leading the team. He went 10-5 at No. 2 doubles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles. Korolev and Doi competed most of the season together, going 9-5 (5-3 MIAC). The pair earned the Scots a point against Carleton on April 19. Korolev was recognized as All-MIAC singles last year and this is his first All-MIAC doubles honors.
Sullivan went 10-5 (6-3 MIAC), competing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles this spring. At No. 1 singles he went 2-1, including a three-set victory over Saint Mary's on April 1 (3-6, 6-0, 10-7). He went 8-4 at No. 2 singles. This is Sullivan's second All-MIAC singles honors, being recognized last year.
Sargent went 5-7 (4-3 MIAC) all at No. 1 singles. He won 6-3, 6-4 against Saint John's on April 15. Sargent was also recognized last year on the All-MIAC singles team.
Sullivan and Sargent competed together at No. 1 doubles this season. The Scots went 9-8 (6-3 MIAC). The pair won 8-5 in a tough battle against Gustavus on March 25. This is Sargent's second time being named to the All-MIAC doubles team and Sullivan's third time.
This is Wood's first All-MIAC singles team honors. He finished the season 9-5 (7-2 MIAC). He went 1-0 at No. 2 singles, defeating UW-Stevens Point in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 11-9). Wood also competed at No. 4 singles and finished with a 2-0 record and at No. 5 singles with a 6-5 record.
