ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College placed four baseball student-athletes on the Division III Academic All-District team, the College Sports Communicators announced today. Senior Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman), juniors Charlie Burton (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) and Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon), and sophomore Cam Scholl (Belmont, Calif./Carlmont) were named to the Academic All-District team, which recognizes student-athletes for excellence in academics and athletics. All four Scots are now candidates for Academic All-American recognition.

Palma had his best season as a Scot, batting .337 with 30 hits, 19 runs and 14 runs batted in. A three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, he graduated from Macalester last Saturday after majoring in both computer science and applied math & statistics. In 114 career games, Palma recorded 91 hits, 18 doubles, 56 runs and a .266 batting average.

Burton received All-MIAC honorable mention after batting .357 with 17 RBIs and leading the Scots in home runs (five) and slugging percentage (.762). A physics major at Macalester, Burton earned a spot on the Academic All-MIAC team last spring.

Mukai had another strong season, batting .290 with 29 hits, 22 runs, eight doubles, three triples, three homers and 25 RBIs. He also made the Academic All-MIAC team in 2022 as a computer science major at Macalester.

Scholl emerged as a reliable option on the mound this season. He was 2-1 with an earned run average of 5.19 in 11 appearances while striking out 22 and walking eight over 26.0 innings. Scholl is majoring in computer science.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be a starter or contributor to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
