ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team played its final home game of the season this afternoon, hosting the Oles. The Scots battled, but fell 5-3 and 11-4. Macalester falls to 15-15 (7-9 MIAC).
The Oles took a 1-0 lead to start the game but the Scots turned around and tied the game in the bottom of the first. After Macalester's first three batters got on base, junior
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior
Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman). St. Olaf took a one run lead at the top of the third, but the Scots answered in the bottom of the inning. First year
Niko Alexander (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) smashed his first collegiate home run, scoring himself and junior
Charlie Burton (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake), to take a 3-2 lead. However, the Oles were able to snag two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to defeat the Scots 5-3. Palma was 2-for-4 with a run.
Macalester kicked off the second game with two runs in the first. Junior
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep). Then, Palma scored his second run of the day off of Mukai's at bat. With bases loaded in the bottom of the second, the Scots increased their lead, with an RBI single from Margolis to bring home first year
Josh Planko (Northville, Mich./Northville). The Oles came back in the third to tie the game at three and then went up 4-3 in the fourth. At the bottom of the fourth, Palma's RBI single plated sophomore
Bowman Wingard (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and tied the game. From then on, the Oles were able to score seven more runs and take the game 11-4. Wingard was 3-for-4 with a run.
Today the Scots honored their seniors, Palma, Margolis,

Kenny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George School),
Peter Aspholm (Winthrop, Wash./Liberty Bell),
Thomas Windels (New York, N.Y./Episcopal),
Alec Deegan (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion),
Declan Elias (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius),
Joey Clark (Burbank, Calif./Burbank), and
Erik Hager (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) between games as part of Senior Day.
The Scots' next doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday April 29. Macalester will head to Fargo, ND to play Concordia for a MIAC matchup. First pitch will be at 2:00 p.m.
