ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team hosted St. Catherine, Hamline and Augsburg in a quad meet Friday night at Riley Pool. The Scots defeated Hamline, 173-49 and Augsburg, 185-16 but lost to St. Catherine, 128.5-98.5 in the first home competition of the season.
Macalester won two individual events and a relay. Sophomore
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.), who was named the MIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week on Monday, captured the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.26. Fellow sophomore
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.21 while also placing second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:49.48.
Other Scots turning in second-place finishes include sophomore
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.97) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.79), senior
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) in the 50-yard freestyle (25.40), and junior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) in the 3-meter diving event (183.95). Schmit was third in the 400 IM in 4:51.18, sophomore
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) took third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.09, and first year
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School) finished third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:48.55.
The Scots' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Radke, Henry, Schmit and junior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) won the final event of the night with a time of 3:41.93.
Macalester returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 18 for the Grace Goblirsch Invite, hosted by Gustavus in St. Peter, Minn.
