Women’s Tennis: Macalester Competes at ITA Regional

ST. PETER, Minn. – Four members of the Macalester College women's tennis team competed in the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Gustavus Sept. 23-25. Additionally, five Scots participated in the Gustie Invite, also at Gustavus.

In the regional singles tournament, seniors Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Avery Munster (San Luis Obisbo, Calif./Mission), and first years Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) each lost in the first round. Sorajja and Trevathan both forced a 10-point tie-breaker after dropping the first set. Sorajja was edged by Concordia-Moorhead's Mary Skorich, 12-10 in the tie-breaker, while Trevathan lost the tie-breaker to Sofia Sackett of Luther by the score of 10-7.

In doubles, Sorajja and Munster lost in the first round but defeated Natalie Peterson and Emily Henderson of Saint Mary's, 8-7 (6) in the consolation bracket. Haugen and Trevathan lost twice in doubles.

In the Gustie Invite, senior Kari Myhran (Shafer, Minn./Chisago Lakes), junior Talia Chait (Lexington, Mass./Lexington), sophomore Lucy McNees (Chardon, Ohio/Hershey Montessori School) and first years Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and Mimi O'Connell competed in the singles draw and lost their first-round matches. Chait and O'Connell, as well as Crosby and McNees, paired up and competed in the doubles competition.

The Scots will face the University of Minnesota's club team in a scrimmage on Thursday, Sept. 29 before resuming their schedule in the spring.
