St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team hosted the annual Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on Saturday in the Leonard Center. The Scots placed third in their season opener, behind Bethel and Gustavus, and ahead of St. Catherine and Augsburg.
The team dominated the 400-meter dash with junior
Sara Gregor (Bloomington, Minn./The Blake School) winning the event with a time of 1:05.05. First year
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) came in just behind Gregor with a time of 1:05.24 and third place went to first year
Meira Smit (Colfax, Wis./Memorial) (1:10.10). In the 800-meter, sophomore
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster) took second (2:25.47), first year
Ella Krumm (Helena, Mont./Capital) placed third (2:34.67), and senior
Lena Stern (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) placed fourth.
In the field, senior
Hannah Grosse (Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) placed second in the pole vault, clearing 3.30m. Junior
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) took third place in the long jump with a leap of 5.00 meters (16-05). Amundson also placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 35-01 (10.69 meters).
Other standouts include the 4x200 meter relay team of Amundson, Grosse, sophomore
Penelope Hunter, and first year
Yinka Saba placed second, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Preston, Gregor, Smit, and sophomore
Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, Tenn./St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) placed third. Hunter also placed third in the 60-meter dash.
The Scots return to action next Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Saint John's/Saint Benedict Alumni Meet in Collegeville, Minn.
