St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College volleyball team fought hard but ultimately fell to St. Catherine in three sets. The Scots are now 1-1 (0-1 MIAC) after tonight's loss while St. Kate's improves to 1-1 (1-1 MIAC).

The Scots tallied 24 kills and the Wildcats tallied 36 kills as a team. Macalester collected four blocks, 21 assists and 21 total digs while St. Kate's totaled five blocks, 31 assists, and 29 digs.

Sophomore
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) led the Scots with eight kills and four blocks. Sophomore
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) added six kills, junior
Claire Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) had a team high nine assists and sophomore
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) chimed in with a team leading five digs.

Macalester scored the first points of match one but St. Kate's quickly gained the lead and held it to eventually take set one 25-19 despite the Scots making a strong run.

The Scots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in set two and gain led by as much as six points before the Wildcats started to come back. After Macalester took a 13-7 lead, St. Kate's rattled off 11 straight points to take a 18-13 lead. Even though Macalester fought back, the Wildcats took set two by a score of 25-20.

Macalester drew first blood again in set three but St. Kate's responded and both teams went back and forth until the Wildcats scored five straight points to make the score 14-7. St. Kates eventually took set three by a score of 25-18.

Macalester will finish out the spring season on the road at Hamline on Friday, April 9. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
