Winona, Minn.- The Macalester College baseball team dropped a pair of MIAC games to a tough Saint Mary's University team. The Scots are 5-10 (5-10 MIAC) while the Cardinals improve to 18-8 (12-5 MIAC). Macalester recorded more hits than Saint Mary's despite falling 7-4 in game one.
In game one, the Scots scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. Sophomore
Kenny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George School) led off with a double through the right side. Shortly after first year
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon) singled and advanced to second on a throwing error which brought in Rodriguez. Saint Mary's took a 4-1 in the bottom of the second on three hits and two errors.
In the top of the fourth inning, Mukai scored Rodriguez on a single up the middle to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Cardinals. Sophomore
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) singled up the middle and was moved over to second base after first year
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) singled through the left side. Junior
Michael Moreno (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) walked to load the bases and Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Margolis and cut the deficit to 4-3 after five and a half innings.
Saint Mary's took a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Scots plated a runner in the top of the seventh after Moreno doubled to score Odom but the rally fell short as the Scots lost game one by a score of 7-4.
Junior
Louis Silverman (New York City, N.Y./Bronx HS of Science) pitched three innings out of the bullpen and only surrendered one run on two hits while striking out two batters.

In game two, the Scots were shutout 7-0. Macalester's offense collected six hits but left nine runners on base.
The Scots were able to get runners in scoring position a few times but weren't able to bring them in. Before the Cardinals broke it open with five runs in the seventh, it was a 1-0 ballgame in favor of Saint Mary's. First year
Matt Rade (Westborough, Mass./St. John's) pitched four innings and only gave up one run on three hits despite being handed the loss.
Junior
Michael Helton (Laguna Beach, Calif./Sage Hill) went 2-for-4 at the plate as the designated hitter.
Macalester will look to bounce back against Concordia for a three-game series over the weekend.
