Macalester Bounces Back with A 6-1 Win to Split A Pair of MIAC Contests

St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College baseball team dropped game one to Concordia College by a score of 11-4 after making a late push in the last two innings. The Scots used that momentum in game two by jumping out to an early 6-0 lead before taking game two by a score of 6-1. Macalester improves to 6-11 (6-11 MIAC) after today's split. After today, Concordia is 10-11 (4-7 MIAC).

In game one, the Scots had an opportunity to put some runs on the board in the first inning after loading the bases with no outs Macalester was sat down in order. The Cobbers then scored nine runs over the course of the next three innings to take a comfortable 9-0 lead.

The Scots were able to plate a runner in the fifth inning after sophomore Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) was hit by a pitch. A few pitches later, Margolis advanced to second on a wild pitch. Margolis then advanced to third on a putout from the third baseman to the first baseman. Margolis then came around to score on a wild pitch to make the score 9-1.

In the seventh inning, senior Jack Sahargun (Coto De Caza, Calif./Tesoro) singled up the middle. Margolis doubled to left center to plate Sahargun. Two more runs would later come in to score after a few wild pitches and a walk. The Scots ultimately fell by a score of 11-4 in game one.

Sophomore Declan Elias (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) came out of the bullpen to throw two innings for Macalester. Elias was lights out, striking out five of the six batters he faced and only allowing one hit.
