ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team posted several strong performances at the Grace Goblirsch Invitational, hosted by Gustavus on Saturday. The Scots took second out of six teams with 535.5 points.
First year
Eleanor Parker (Milton, Wis./Milton) gave the Scots the first of two first-place finishes by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:46.45. Fellow first year
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.26. Also swimming well were junior
Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton), who was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.93, and first year
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West), who took second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:21.41.
A trio of first years turned in third-place finishes:
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.61),
Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) in the 50-yard freestyle, and
Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood) in the 200 butterfly, (2:24.68). Sophomore
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.41.
Macalester's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Merkadeau, Chapon, Rakowski and Radke took second in 1:42.97. The 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Merkadeau, Rakowsky, Radke and Madigan also placed second with a time of 3:46.66. Madigan, Pollock, Radke and first year
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) combined to take third in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:55.54.
In the 1-meter diving event, first year
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) placed third with a score of 203.30.
Macalester returns home to host the Roger Ahlman Invitational on Dec. 3-4 at Riley Pool.
