ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team turned in several solid performances at the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus on Friday and Saturday. The Scots advanced two singles players to the third round, while another player made it to the draw finals of the Fall Invite, which was also held at Gustavus.
In singles, junior
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) defeated Abby Nelson of Cornell and Concordia Wisconsin's Jennifer Mies to reach the third round, where she fell to Natalie Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire. First year
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) also advanced to the third round by beating Kelsey Kruse of Luther and Central's Maddie Harley before losing to Sabrina Tang of Grinnell.
In doubles, the Sorajja sisters defeated Victoria Montoya and Ella White from Coe before losing to Bethel's Mackenzie Novak and Sydney Rott. Also, the team of senior
Claire Buehler (Houston, Tex./Awty International School) and junior
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) battle Gustavus' seeded duo of Anna Stutz and Sydney Douglas before losing, 8-6. Both Buehler and Hickey also participated in the singles tournament.
In the Fall Invite, first year
Avery Munster (San Luis Obisbo, Calif./Mission) defeated Lara Henriksen of UW-La Crossse and Kailey Maroney of Gustavus to advance to the finals of Draw 7. Sophie Dahlke of St. Thomas eliminated Munster, 6-1, 6-4 in the final. Senior
Camilla Bendetti (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) also won a singles match in the Fall Invite. In doubles, Munster and Bendetti defeated Sabrina Bush and Ashlyn Hughes of Northwestern-St. Paul before falling in the second round.
