HAM LAKE, Minn. – The season-opener for the Macalester men's golf team was highlighted by a solid performance from sophomore
Alex Johanson (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla), who took home medalist honors shooting one over par on the day with a score of 73.
Johanson's 73 was just one stroke ahead of Augsburg's top golfer, River Goodmanson, and the third best round of his career so far. This was the first time that the sophomore has earned medalist honors as a Scot.
On the team side, Augsburg won the dual, shooting for a score of 306 (18 over par). The Scots compiled a 322 team score which was 34 over par.
Sophomore
Ethan Deutsch (Kyle, Texas/Lehman) placed next best for Macalester, finishing in sixth at seven over par for a score of 79. Sophomore
Karanja Karubiu (Nairobi, Kenya/United World College) and junior
Jim Smith (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) also finished in the top-10 at the event, as Karubiu took ninth with a round of 84 and Smith was right behind him, shooting an 85.
The team will have a chance to play at the same course again tomorrow and Sunday (August 31 and September 1) as they participate in the Augsburg Invitational.
