Men’s Soccer: Macalester Set for MIAC Playoffs

The Scots will head to Saint John’s for the first round on November 5

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester men's soccer team is getting ready for the MIAC playoff tournament, when they will travel to Collegeville to face Saint John's on November 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Scots enter the tournament as the fifth seed, as they finished the conference regular season with a 5-4-1 record and 16 points.

The Johnnies earned the fourth seed which guaranteed them a home game for the first round. Macalester holds an 11-9-1 all-time record against Saint John's, with the Johnnies coming away with a 3-2 win in this year's conference matchup. In that game, the Scots held a 2-0 lead into the 60th minute, but Saint John's stormed back scoring twice within the span of three minutes and then winning it on a penalty kick goal with less than a minute and a half left in the game.

Gustavus enters the tournament as the number one seed and will play the lowest remaining seed in the semifinal round on November 6. St. Thomas is the second seed and will also host a second-round game. The other quarterfinal matchup of the tournament features third-seeded Carleton hosting sixth-seeded St. Olaf.

The Scots have had 11 different players score so far this season, being led by the senior duo of Chris Bajek (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) and Nick Moore (Georgetown, Mass./Governor's Academy), who each have four goals. Moore leads the team in total points with 12. Junior Floyd Krom (Naaldwijk, Netherlands/UWC-Costa Rica) and sophomore Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) have the next most goals, with three each.

Goalkeeper Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) enters the MIAC tournament with 64 saves made on the season, which ranks fourth-highest in the league. He also ranks second in save percentage (.800) and fourth in goals against average (0.95).

Tickets for Tuesday's game are $10 for adults and $2 for students. Children five and under are free.
