ST. PETER, Minn. - The Macalester men's soccer team dropped their final regular season game to Gustavus, as the Gusties scored late in the second half to claim the win in St. Peter. The Scots, who end the regular season with a 7-6-4 record, will look ahead to the MIAC Playoff Tournament that begins on Tuesday, November 5.
Macalester will either be the fourth or fifth seed in the tournament. The Scots have 16 points on the season and their seed will be determined based on what Saint John's does in their 3:30 game with Carleton. If the Johnnies win or tie, the Scots will be the fifth seed and play on the road. If Carleton defeats the Johnnies, the Scots will be the fourth seed and will host a first-round playoff game on Tuesday.
In today's game, the Scots were active on offense to start the half, holding a 6-1 edge in shots through the first 25 minutes. Gustavus added some offense in the second part of the half, taking four shots in the final twenty minutes. Overall, Macalester held an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 margin in shots on goal.
The Gusties got on the board first in the second half, scoring five minutes in off a corner kick play.
The Scots answered less than ten minutes later as senior
Nick Moore (Georgetown, Mass./Governor's Academy) scored his fourth goal of the season to tie up the game 1-1. Moore has a team-leading 12 points on the year, with four assists to go along with four goals. Sophomore
Jack Muller (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) picked up his third assist of the season on the play.
Neither team was able to score for the next 25 minutes, but Gustavus converted in the 89
th minute with a goal from Raphael Cattelin to seal the win. The Scots were unable to get a shot off in the final minute and a half, allowing the Gusties to win 2-1.
Gustavus ended the game with a slight advantage in shots (15-13), however the Scots got more of their shots on net with a 7-5 edge.

Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) ended the game with three saves on the day and moves to 6-6-4 on the year.
