Women's Soccer: Scots Beat Luther College

Box Score DECORAH, Iowa.- The Macalester College women's soccer team beat Luther College today 2-1 for their first win of the day.

The Scots scored three minutes into the game, as sophomore Yukeria Haywood (Stone Mountain, Ga./Marist School) slotted a ball into the lower left corner of the Luther goal for her first goal of the season.

However, the Norse returned with a goal of their own almost immediately. Less than thirty seconds after Haywood's goal Luther tied the game with a shot from midfield. The game remained a 1-1 until halftime despite sophomore Georgia Kazemi (Missoula,Mont./Hellgate) and sophomore Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) having back to back shots on the Luther keeper in the 34th minute.

In the second half the Scots managed to keep the score tied despite being outshot 5-3 by the Norse. And then in the 75th minute the Scots took their first lead of the season as first year Maggie Bunker (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) shot and scored into the upper right corner off an assist by junior Molly Adams (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle).

The Scots continued to press forward with two shots after the second goal and several blocked Luther shot attempts to see out the win 2-1.

The Scots will return Tuesday., Sept. 11, away to Hamline University at 4:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
