NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to wrap up play on the final day of the St. Olaf/Carleton Tournament on Saturday at Carleton. The Scots, who fell to Simpson in three sets and Bethany Lutheran in four sets, are now 1-3 on the season.
Against Simpson, Macalester lost by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 25-11. Junior right side
Grace Brickner (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston) paced the offense with six kills, and sophomore
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) contributed five kills. Sophomore defensive specialist
Abrielle Dillon (Brown Deer, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) notched 10 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Scots won the first set, 26-24, only to have Bethany Lutheran win three straight sets to win the match, 24-26, 25-16, 25-11, 25-21. Senior outside hitter
Nicole Bennington (Shelton, Wash./Olympia) led Macalester with 12 kills to match her career best, while Parmelee and sophomore middle hitter
Kendall Ford (Seattle, Wash./The Northwest School) each added five kills. Senior setter
Emily Bowler (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) had 15 assists and five digs. Dillon contributed 15 digs on defense, while junior defensive specialist
Hannah Detlaff recorded 10 digs.
Macalester returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at North Central University. The non-conference match starts at 7:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
