Biography

As a Scot
Has been a Google Summer Intern for two summers, as well as an iDTech Summer Camp Instructor. Also has experience as a Macalester Computer Science Department Preceptor.

2018
Earned MIAC All-Academic honors… Appeared in 22 matches for the Scots… Recorded 66 kills on the season and averaged 1.47 points per set… Collected 30 blocks on the season, including eight that were solo blocks… Added 18 digs, nine aces, and three assists throughout the season… Tallied a season-high 13 kills against Finlandia on Oct. 5, hitting for a .323 percentage… Had a season-best five blocks against Beloit on Sept. 14.

Played 78 sets... Tallied 36 kills.

Played in 10 sets.

Received Homestead Volleyball 2012 Most Improved Player Awad … Recipient of Scholar Athlete Award all four years of high school... Member of 2014 CCS 2nd place championship team… Homestead High School Athletic Booster Scholarship recipient… Member of 2016 NCVA Spring Classic 18's Division Eclipse Volleyball Club championship team… Graduated valedictorian.
 
Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
I chose to attend Macalester because of the atmosphere I felt when I visited campus, how intelligent and interesting the students and faculty are, and for the opportunity to experience living in the Twin Cities.
 
What has your experience at Macalester meant to you so far?
My experience at Macalester has been amazing. It has given me independence, new experiences, great learning and friendships, and basically a whole new chapter in my life. I am so happy that I found Macalester and decided to give it a try, because it has been a very positive experience in my life, and I am looking forward to more great years here! 

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
Being a student athlete at Macalester has had a huge impact on my life. It has helped me learn to be a good teammate. This aids me in working with different types of people, and striving to be supportive and kind, and bring out the best in them, while still getting my voice heard and making my own contributions. I have also learned to fight to have a growth mindset, maintain perseverance and focus, and how to allocate my energy to my priorities.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester prepared you for your life after graduation?
My experience playing volleyball at Macalester has allowed me to practice many skills that I have applied throughout my life and work. In addition to time management, prioritizing, and responsibility, I learned crucial skills of teamwork and leadership. I learned about different ways to be a leader on a team, both in the typical sense and leading from within, finding ways to support my teammates and help them do their best. I learned how to focus on the success of the group and to celebrate and put the effort in together. I anticipate that these will be crucial skills in work and in life, as I navigate joining new communities and bringing my best self to everything I do.
