Men's Soccer: Scots Draw With Pacific in Season Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Macalester College men's soccer team tied  Pacific University 0-0 today in their season opener.

The first half between the Scots and the Boxers remained tight with the Scots only managing five shots, none of which tested the Boxer keeper. The Macalester defense kept senior keeper Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) from being busy with Pacific just tallying two shots. At half, the two teams went in tied 0-0.

The Boxers started off quick in the second half with a run down the left flank which saw the ball sent in out of Wenig's grasp. However, the Scots defence stepped in as junior Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) blocked the resulting shot in the second minute of the half.

The Scots found an offensive flow fifteen minutes into the second half with a solid chance as first year Danny Peak (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) sent a first-time volley high off a right flank cross from junior Nick Moore (Georgetown, Mass./Governor's Academy).

The score continued to remain at zeros with Macalester sustaining consistent possession and offensive pressure for the remainder of the half. With four minutes left in the half Jamel Benhamida (Fairbault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) took a free kick on the Boxers' 20 yard line. The free kick sailed low to the right to just be saved by the Pacific University keeper.

Either team was unable to score in regular time and the Scots and Boxers headed to overtime.

The Scots lead Pacific in shots 14- 5 by the end of the first overtime, but the Boxers were able to keep the game tied.

The overtime remained more of the same and ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Scots return to play at home on Sunday, Sept. 2, at home against Wartburg College in St. Paul, Minn. at 2:30 p.m.
