ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team lost a double header to Hamline University today 13-5 and 5-2.
The Scots took the lead at the top of the first inning with an run by sophomore
Julia Carpenter (Stensville, Mich./Lakeshore) started the inning with a bunt single. The Scots continued to score with their young players as first year
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie), who was two for three in the first game, hit her nineteenth hit to advance first year
Kennedy Kechley (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) to make the game 2-0. The Pipers came back with three runs in to lead 3-2.
In the third inning, Macalester started off with a single by senior
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) who then scored after Lawhead had her second hit of the game, a single to left field. The Scots then had two runners on the corners with both being first years. With
Anya Lindell Paulson (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) and
Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) on second and third respectively, senior
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) advanced both runners with a hit that was fielded with an error by the Pipers second baseman. At 5-3, the Scots were up until Hamline scored ten unanswered runs to win 13-5.
In the second game, Hamline was up 5-0 by the top of the fourth when the Scots responded with two runs. Carpenter again had a single base hit, as she was two for seven on the day, and Kechely got on base with a double down the right field. They both scored as Gregorich had a two-run single to right field. That finished the scoring for both teams and the Scots lost 5-2.
First year
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) started on the mound for the Scots in the first game, throwing three innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Junior
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw the entirety of the six inning second game with four strikeouts, putting her at 84 and third in the MIAC.
The Scots return to action for their final doubleheader at Bethel University on Sat., April 28 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
