MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team split against Gustavus today, winning the 6-3 and then losing 2-0 to the Gusties.  
 
In the first game against the Gusties, the Scots went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning.  With sophomore 
Julie Carpenter (Stensville, Mich./Lakeshore) at third, after stealing second for her sixth stolen base of the year, and junior 
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) on second, senior 
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) grounded out to the Gusties short stop to send Carpenter across home plate. First year 
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) then hit a single to center for her seventh RBI to advance O'Connor to make it 2-0.
 
Macalester then scored their final four runs in the top of the third to make the game 6-0.  With Carpenter on third, in part to her second stolen base of the game, O'Connor lined to left field for a single RBI. First year 
Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) scored an unearned run after Meade reached first on an error with the bases loaded.
 
The bases still loaded, senior 
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) singled to the left to send first year 
Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul) to home to make it 5-0. The Scots final run came with junior 
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) at bat, hitting a single for a run by Bean.
 
The Gusties scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh but were unable to catch the scots who won the first game 6-3.
In the second game, the Scots fell behind in the first inning 1-0. Neither team were able to score the rest of the game until the Gusties sealed the 2-0 in in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Migacz pitched six innings in the first game and is now 9-9. Meade pitched her second game  with five innings in the second game, adding two strikeouts to her season. 
 
The Scots return to action with a double header against the University of St. Thomas on Saturday, April 21 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
