ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team split at the final day of the ACM Tournament at the Rochester Dome. Macalester beat Grinnell College 10-8 in their first game today and fell to Beloit College 7-1 in the afternoon. The Scots are now 3-3 on the season.
In the first game, the Scot's first year
Molly Hurley (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) hit a single in the second to tie the game 1-1. Singles from senior
Vivi Gregorich (Boulder, Colo./Boulder),
Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) put the Macalester up 3-1 going into the sixth. Gregorich, Hurley both hit doubles for single runs and then
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) hit a two-run double to up the score to 8-1. While the Pioneers were able to score four runs in the sixth, Macalester sealed the win with a single by Gregorich and a double by senior
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine). The Pioneers hit two runs in the seventh, with the Scots winning 10-8.
Against Beloit, the Scots took the lead with their only run in the second off a single by
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont). Despite hits by Hurley,
Samantha Barkan (New York, N.Y./Friends Seminary) and two by Carpenter, Macalester was not able to stay with Beloit as they beat the Scots 7-1.
Junior pitcher
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw 7 innings in the win against Grinnell putting her to 3-1 on the season. Bean and first year
Emily Cekander (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) split the Beloit game with Cekander allowing just two runs in her first pitching appearance for the Scots.
Sophie Migacz was named to the ACM All-Tournament team.
The Scots travel to Tucson, Ariz. To play their next ten games in the TIG Sports Srping Games on March 10-15. Their first game starts at 12:00 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday, Mar. 10.
