TUCSON, Ariz. – The Macalester College softball team won both games on their first day of their spring trip in Tucson, Ariz. today. The Scots beat Rockford University 10-1 and then beat Chapman University 5-4 in their second game. The Scots are now 5-3.
The Scots started off with three runs off of junior
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) double. After Rockford scored their only run in the third, Macalester scored their next seven runs in the fourth off a sacrifice bunt by senior
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine), a single by first year
Kennedy Kechely ( Rochester, Minn./Mayo), and triples by junior
Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) and Migacz.
Macalester played a tough one against Chapman University winning 5-4. Chapman took the lead by two runs in the second inning. And then hit another run to go up 3-0 in the third. Macalester came back firing in the fourth scoring five runs, first of a double by O'Connor, then continued with a single by first year
Molly Hurley (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), and a single by sophomore
Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore).
After a no run fifth, the Scots allowed Chapman to score a run in the top of the sixth but was able to play clean to win the game closely 5-4..
Junior pitcher
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw 6 innings against Rockford and 7 in the win over Chapman and is now 5-1 on the season.
The Scots continue in Tucson, Ariz. and play Dickinson College at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, Mar. 11.
