TUCSON, Ariz. – The Macalester College softball team dropped two games on their second day in Tucson, Ariz. The Scots lost to Dickinson College 12-2 and a close one to the University of Dubuque 10-8. The Scots are now 5-5 with three more days of play in Arizona to go.
The Scots started off with one run by a sacrificed fly by first year
Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo). But Dickinson came out in the bottom of the first to score six runs putting the score to Dickinson 6-1. Macalester scored in the third of a single from
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove). Then in the fourth Dickinson scored six more runs to end the game 12-2 in a mercy run.
In the second game the Scots opened the game with a run on a single by
Claire O'Connor in the first. Dubuque then took the lead scoring 3 runs in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth to lead 7-1. Macalester then came back to score four runs in the fifth off a single from sophomore
Julie Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) a sacrifice bunt by first year
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) and then a sacrifice fly by first year
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hill, Utah./Pleasant Grove) and a single from O'Connor. The Scots then went up 8-7 in the sixth off of a 3 run double from Lawhead. Dubuque, however, came back with two runs in the sixth to win 10-8.
Junior pitcher
Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) threw 1 inning in the loss to Dickinson and 3 in the loss against Dubuque. Senior
Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) closed out against Dubuque.
The Scots continue in Tucson, Ariz. to play Hood College at 9:00 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse at 11:00 pm at Lincoln Park in on Monday, Mar. 12.
