ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior
Alia Benedict (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) placed first individually to lead the Macalester College women's cross country team past St. Catherine at the St. Catherine Invitational Saturday morning. The Scots took five of the top seven spots to win, 22 to 39 in the team standings.
Benedict covered the 5,000-meter course on the St. Catherine campus in 19:22 to finish 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Riley McMahon of the Wildcats. Senior
Marlee Yost-Wolff (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) was next in third place, followed by first year
Zella Lobo (Portland, Ore./Grant) in fifth. A pack of 12 Macalester runners finished in fifth through 16th place, with junior
Lydia Simpson (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale) and first year
Lena Stern (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) scoring for the Scots in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Macalester competes at the Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13 at UW-La Crosse.
