MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team fell to Augsburg University, 25-10, 25-10, 27-25 Friday evening in Si Melby Hall. The Scots drop to 9-14 overall and 0-8 in the conference, while the Auggies improve to 18-5, 5-3 MIAC.
After losing the first two sets, Macalester rallied near the end of the third set. Trailing 24-20, the Scots staved off four straight match points by registering five consecutive points to lead, 25-24. But Augsburg was able to score the next three points to take the set and the match.
Senior outside hitter
Nicole Bennington (Shelton, Wash./Olympia) tallied a team-best nine kills, including four in the third set, to pace the Scots. Senior outside hitter
Sofi Ascencio (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) had six kills while leading Macalester with 10 digs. Senior setter
Emily Bowler (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) delivered 14 assists and eight digs, with senior outside hitter
Gabby Ivy (Saint Louis, Mo. /John Burroughs) and sophomore libero
Abrielle Dillon (Brown Deer, Wis./Univ. School of Milwaukee) contributing nine digs apiece.
The Scots play a non-conference match at Crown College on Wednesday, Oct. 17, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
