ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second time in four days, junior forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) tallied the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Macalester College women's soccer team defeated UW-Stevens Point, 1-0 Friday evening at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 2-1, while the Pointers even their record at 2-2.
In a competitive 90 minutes, both teams had chances but neither would find the net. As she did in Tuesday's victory over UW-Eau Claire, Hasama rose to the occasion in the first extra session. Junior defender
Mia Stripp (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) sent a pass to Hasama up the middle and into the penalty area. Hasama blasted the ball into the goal from about 10 yards out in the 99th minute to give Macalester another sudden victory.
UW-Stevens Point held a slight 14-13 edge in shots, with both teams putting eight shots on frame. Senior goalkeeper
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) started and made two saves in the first half before senior
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep School) played the second half and overtime, making six saves. Sarah Peplinski recorded eight saves for the Pointers.
Macalester begins MIAC play on Tuesday, Sept. 12 against Hamline, with the game starting at 4:00 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
