ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) scored in the second minute of overtime to give the Macalester College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium. The win is the first of the year for the Scots, who improve to 1-1. The Blugolds fall to 0-2.
After the teams battled through 90 scoreless minutes, a hand ball by UW-Eau Claire gave Macalester a free kick on the Blugolds' half of the field. Junior defender
Clara Webby (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) launched the free kick towards the goal to Hasama, who headed the ball over goalkeeper Sammie Lefaive and into the net for the game-winner. The goal marked the sixth game-winning goal for Hasama in 36 career games.
Senior goalkeepers
Emma Toomer (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) and
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep School) shared the shutout, with Wilson-King registering two saves in the first half and Toomer making three saves in the second half and overtime. Lefaive finished with three saves for UW-Eau Claire.
