ST. PAUL, Minn. – First year forward
Kate Bond (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) scored the game's only goal in the 50th minute to give the Macalester College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Luther College in a non-conference game Tuesday evening at Macalester Stadium. The Scots improve to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Norse drop to 3-4.
After a scoreless first half, the Scots generated some offense less than five minutes into the second half. Junior forward
Jaime Hasama (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) collected the ball near the top of the Luther penalty area and sent a pass back to Bond, who blasted a shot from nearly 30 yards out. Norse goalkeeper Lauren Thormodsgard got a piece of the ball but not enough to keep it out of the top right corner of the goal. Bond's tally is the first of her career at Macalester.
The Scots outshot Luther, 8-5, with senior goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prep School) registering four saves for her second consecutive shutout. Thormodsgard made three saves for Luther in the loss.
Macalester returns to conference play with a MIAC contest against Carleton on Friday, Sept. 22. The game begins at 4:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
