ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team hosted Grinnell College in a dual Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots lost to the Pioneers in the team scoring, 172-126.
Sophomore
Olivia Borgmann (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) was one of three Scots to win two events to lead Macalester in the pool. She placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.89, then captured the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:42.64. Senior
Smaranda Georgescu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) won the 50-yard freestyle (25.29) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.09). Junior
Kaia Lund (Mondovi, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) took both the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.73) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.74). Also placing first in the pool was first year
Miriam Eide (Rochester, Minn./Century), who won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.53, her best time of the season.
Also winning two events was first year diver
Francesca Gillis (River Forest, Ill./Trinity), who took first in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Before the start of the meet, Macalester honored its seniors: Georgescu,
Hannah Bonestroo (Ames, Iowa/Ames),
Kaila Chapman (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and
Mara Halvorson (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata).
The meet also served as the final tune-up for the MIAC Championships, which will be held Feb. 16-18 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
