CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Macalester College softball team continued action at the Spring Games on Tuesday. The Scots faced Calvin College in game one and fell to the Knights, 14-3. Macalester battled in game two, coming up short on a wild pitch run in the bottom of the seventh to fall 2-1.
After today's action, Macalester moves to 4-6 overall. They will return to play on Thurday, March 17 when they take on North Central College and Calvin College at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (EST). Follow the games online at:
http://portal.stretchinternet.com/macalester/index.htmGame One: Calvin 14, Macalester 3Calvin put together a strong first inning, collecting six runs on six hits and never looked back. The Knights capitalized on offense, finishing with 18 hits in the game to Macalester's five.
After a big first inning, Calvin added one more run in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth inning. The Scots got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Nikki Caicedo (Clinton Township, Mich. / Chippewa Valley) hit an RBI sac fly to score G.G. Gunther (San Francisco, Calif. / Lowell). Morghan Bean (Muscatine, Iowa / Muscatine) followed with a double to left field and scored on a Logan Tootle (Kansas City, Mo. / Lee's Summit North) RBI. Macalester scored once more in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI by first year Makaya Resner (Missoula, Mont. / Loyola Sacred Heart). Resner took the circle with one out to go in the second inning, relieving Morghan Bean. Resner finished out the game, pitching 2.1 innings and gave up four hits. She struck out four. Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill. / McHenry West) started on the mound, earning the loss.

Game Two: Trinity 2, Macalester 1The Scots fought back in game two, executing strong pitching and defense. Macalester scored one run in the top of the third inning when
Morghan Bean singled to right center to score
Abby Cox who reached on a walk. Trinity evened the score at one all in the bottom of the third.
Still tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Trinity led off with an infield single and advanced on a throwing error. The Bantams scored the winning run after one wild pitch advanced the runners and a second secured a 2-1 victory.
Logan Tootle had a strong outing through six innings. She gave up four hits and struck out two. Her record drops to 2-1 with the loss.
