Jennison
ST. PAUL, Minn. – With the Scots' 48-36 victory over Cornell College on Saturday, Oct. 29, Macalester College football coach
Tony Jennison became the winningest coach in Macalester football history. Jennison, who is now 46-42 in eight-plus seasons, passed
Dwight Stuessy, who won 45 games in 13 seasons (1937-38, 1946-56).
Fittingly, the milestone victory came on the day the football team honored its seniors, who were playing in their final home game. The class of 15 seniors helped the Scots compile a record of 24-16 over the past four years, with one game yet to play. The program record for most wins over a four-year period is 25, set from 1983-86.
This season is also just the fourth time in the 123-year history of the program with at least seven victories, joining the teams from 1960 (7-2), 1986 (7-2-1) and 2014 (9-2). Macalester's victory on Saturday improved the Scots' overall record to 7-2, including a 6-1 mark in the Midwest Conference.
"While achieving this record is an honor, we are not able to get to 46 wins without the support, commitment and hard work of many people" Jennison said. "This record belongs to the outstanding players we've had over the years, to the dedicated coaches who have worked hard to make us successful, and to the administration, faculty, staff and parents who have provided their support in so many ways throughout the years."
The Scots have a bye week before closing out the season with a Midwest Conference game at St. Norbert on Nov. 12.
