In a non-conference matchup with Northland College at the Leonard Center, the Scots defeated the Lumberjills 25-10, 25-14, 25-22. With the win, Macalester moves to 9-15 with a 1-7 record in conference play. Northland now has a 2-23 record on the season.
In the first set the Scots started fast, and built their lead throughout. Together they notched 11 kills to Northland's 3. The Scots recorded positive attacking percentages in all sets while the Lumberjill only got out to the red for the third set. The last set proved to be the closest of them all with Northland fighting through to the end. Â
Junior outside hitter India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) led the team with 11 kills while putting up a .550 attack percentage. Senior setter Samantha Bongiorno (Richardson, Texas/Shelton School) had 17 assists and 8 digs, nearly matched by senior Brooke Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) with 14 assists and 8 digs. Senior libero Hoai-Nam Bui (McLean, Va./Langley) led the squad with 19 digs.
The Scots will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, traveling to Winona, Minn. to take on MIAC competitor St. Mary's (21-3, 5-2 MIAC). The team will be back home October 25 to host Bethel (14-8, 4-4 MIAC).
