ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming and diving team hosted Grinnell College in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool in the Leonard Center. The Scots lost in the team scoring, 193-97.
Macalester teams placed first in two relays, as senior
Ben Kromash (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young), sophomore
Sam Gleason (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and first years
Taylor Durbin (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) and
Calvin Dretske (Winona, Minn./Winona) won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.29. Gleason, Durbin, junior
Ian Lock (Fond Du Lac, Wis./Fond Du Lac) and first year
Jacob Roux (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) took first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.21.
In the individual events, first year
Paul Reischmann (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest Prep) won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:11.49. Dretske earned two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke with season-best times of 1:06.33 and 2:27.96, respectively. Roux also placed second in the diving events, with scores of 223.35 in the 1-meter event and 199.60 in the 3-meter event.
Durbin narrowly lost the 100 backstroke, losing to Grinnell's Joshua Cottle by .01 seconds with a season-best time of 58.01.
The Scots will now prepare for the MIAC Championships, which will be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Feb. 18-20.
