MOORHEAD, Minn. – Two goals early in the first half helped the Macalester College women's soccer team defeat Concordia College, 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Concordia's Jake Christiansen Stadium. The victory is the first MIAC win of the season for the Scots, who improve to 2-1-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Cobbers drop to 3-3, 1-1 MIAC.
Just three minutes after the game started, junior defender
Michaela McGonigle (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) found the net to give Macalester an early 1-0 lead. Less than seven minutes later, senior midfielder
Lily Jilk (River Falls, Wis./Shattuck St. Mary's) scored an unassisted goal for a 2-0 advantage. The Scots' defense did the rest, limiting Concordia to three shots on goal for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Wilson-King (Tuscon, Ariz/St. Gregory College Prep) made all three saves to earn the shutout.
Macalester outshot the Cobbers, 18-10 in the victory, with Concordia's Elizabeth Bitzan registering eight saves in goal.
The Scots play a non-conference game at Wartburg on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. in Waverly, Iowa.
